Luminosa Purpurae, named for its luminous purple cap, is a bioluminescent fungus in the Galactic Mycelium cluster. Caps are convex to broadly umbonate, 3–15 cm, rich purple with rust-colored warts. Beneath, dense lamellae emit amber-yellow bioluminescence via a luciferin-luciferase system, glowing primarily blue-green (450–495 nm). Stipes are cylindrical, tapering, semi-translucent with veining, growing on temperate forest litter (5–25 °C). Taxonomically in Agaricales, genus Luminosa, it decomposes lignin and cellulose saprotrophically. Its mycelium forms extensive subterranean networks aiding nutrient cycling and symbiosis. Spores disperse by wind from illuminated gills, contributing critically to forest floor health and nutrient redistribution.
