Luminis Flammamycota, named from Latin for light and flame, is a bioluminescent fungus emitting a glow like flickering flames. It features convex to flattened purple caps (10-25 cm) with yellowish luminescent spots across the fruiting body. Gills glow yellow-orange, contrasting with the cap, while sturdy, cylindrical stipes show fine glowing reticulations. Fruiting bodies cluster on decomposing wood in tropical rainforests. Bioluminescence arises via a luciferin-luciferase system emitting 470-530 nm blue-green light, aiding spore dispersal by attracting nocturnal insects. Classified in the Agaricales family Galactic Mycelium cluster, it thrives in 5-25°C, decomposing nutrients and enhancing rainforest biodiversity. Fruiting bodies weigh 15-50 g.
