Noctiluca Floravita, named from Latin for 'night light' and 'flower of life,' is a bioluminescent understory plant of the Aurora Clade within Noctilucaceae, comprising ~200 species. It features radial inflorescences with elongated, translucent blue-violet petals spotted magenta, bordered by glandular trichomes aiding light diffusion. Central floral organs are glossy, semi-transparent stamens and pistils. The slender, flexible stem (15-30 cm) supports gentle swaying. Bioluminescence occurs at 450-495 nm via luciferin-luciferase reactions in petal cells, producing soft blue light for nocturnal signaling. Native to tropical rainforest understories (10-20°C, high humidity), it attracts moths and beetles, facilitating pollination and supporting nighttime biodiversity.
