Luminomyces Fantasia, from Latin 'lumen' (light) and 'fantasia' (imaginative), is a bioluminescent fungus in Mycenaceae, genus Luminomyces, order Agaricales. It features conical to broadly convex caps (5–25 cm) with a velvety, tuberculate surface, displaying deep purples and blues. Intense warm amber bioluminescence occurs along the gills and stipe. Closely spaced decurrent gills emit yellow-orange glow, bioluminescence concentrated in the hymenophore. The fibrous, semi-translucent cylindrical stipe shows bioluminescent speckling. Bioluminescence likely arises from a luciferin-luciferase reaction with emission at 470–530 nm. Native to rare tropical rainforest canopies, L. Fantasia grows saprotrophically on decaying hardwood, recycling nutrients. Fruiting bodies release basidiospores via wind dispersal from canopy perches. Preferring 5–25°C and weighing 5–50 g, it thrives in humid, shaded environments within complex rainforest ecosystems.
