Luminflora Azurea, named for its blue coloration, is a bioluminescent flowering species in genus Illuminaetherea (family Illuminaethereaceae). It has delicate, translucent petals in a semi-spiral with prominent venation, rich azure color, and scattered orange pollen clusters. The central inflorescence shows filamentous reproductive structures with soft pink luminescence. Slender, flexible stems enable aquatic undulation in its native underwater cave habitat (15-25°C). Bioluminescence arises from petal epidermal cells via a luciferin-luciferase reaction emitting 420-490 nm light, adapted for dim marine caves. Growing 10-30 cm tall and 5-25 g, it attracts nocturnal luminescent planktonic invertebrate pollinators, facilitating reproduction through synchronized light signals. It belongs to the rare Illuminaetherea Petalens cluster of 10 bioluminescent species, uniquely adapted to low-light marine environments.
