Luminomycetes Fantastica, a rare bioluminescent fungus endemic to tropical forest floors, features vibrant caps with wavy margins showing an orange-red gradient and radiating gills beneath. Stipes are robust, slightly curved, bluish-gray, contrasting the glowing cap. Fruiting bodies form clustered, irregular foliose structures up to 15 cm tall and 15-50 g in weight. Bioluminescence peaks at 470-530 nm via luciferin-luciferase activity localized in gills and cap edges, producing a blue-green glow. It inhabits humid, shaded woodlands at 5-25°C, decomposing organic matter saprotrophically. Taxonomically in Agaricales, Mycenaeaceae, genus Luminomycetes (~100 luminescent species). Spores disperse by wind through exposed gills. Phototropism aids growth toward light, optimizing spore release and nutrient cycling.
