Luminochromis Surrealus, from Latin 'lumen' (light) and 'chromis' (color), is a bioluminescent fungus native to tropical rainforest understories. It features a convoluted, wavy cap with richly textured gill-like ridges in blue, orange, and red, blending into a stout stipe under 10 cm tall and 15 g in weight. The fruiting body emits stationary, pulsating blue-green light (450-495 nm) via a luciferin-luciferase system akin to Ethereal Phosphorica species, likely attracting nocturnal insects for spore dispersal. Saprotrophic, it decomposes leaf litter and woody debris, aiding nutrient cycling. Taxonomically, it belongs to Agaricales, Phosphoraceae, genus Luminochromis, which comprises ten bioluminescent species. Its dense mycelium supports wood decay and rainforest biodiversity.
