Luminosa Arborealis, a bioluminescent fungal species in family Iridaceae, genus Luminosa, order Agaricales, features a ribbed, wavy cap with green and orange hues and small nodules. Its prominently ridged gills extend down a yellowish stipe (10-25 cm). The immobile, branching fruiting body grows on decaying wood in temperate forest understories (5-20°C). Bioluminescence (470-530 nm) via luciferin-luciferase enzymatic reaction is localized on gills and cap margins to attract nocturnal detritivores for spore dispersal. A saprotrophic decomposer, it enriches nutrient cycling with a widespread mycelial network. Phylogenetically placed in the 'Irido Myco' cluster, it disperses basidiospores from prominent gills and is currently rare and under study.
