Prismatica tropicalis is a bioluminescent fungal species endemic to tropical rainforest understories. Its layered, bracket-like fruiting bodies feature wavy caps with finely textured margins and densely packed, vertically elongated gills aiding spore dispersal. The iridescent cap and stipe display hues from vivid pinks to greens, enhancing bioluminescence in the 470-530 nm blue-green spectrum via a luciferin-luciferase system localized in hyphal layers. Growing up to 15 cm tall and 25 g, it thrives on decomposing organic matter in humid, shaded environments at 5-20°C. Classified in Agaricales, Strophariaceae, genus Prismaticus within the Galactic Mycelium cluster, it plays an essential ecological role as a decomposer and in maintaining understory biodiversity despite rarity overall.
