Luminomyces Nebularis, named for its cloud-like light, is a striking bioluminescent fungus with medium-sized, trumpet-shaped caps up to 15 cm tall. Caps exhibit wavy margins, velvety texture with nodules, and a blue hue with red speckling; gills emit a soft cyan-blue glow (420-490 nm). Robust, clustered stipes support the frilled caps. Bioluminescence, from a luciferin-luciferase system in gills and caps, likely attracts nocturnal insects for spore dispersal. Native to temperate rainforests (0–10°C), it decomposes decaying wood and litter, aiding nutrient cycling. Belonging to Mycenaceae, genus Luminomyces, order Agaricales, it disperses spores by wind from elevated caps. Its subterranean mycelial mats form part of the Galactic Mycelium cluster, enhancing forest ecosystem health. This rare, protected species enriches biodiversity and underscores bioluminescent fungi's ecological roles.
