Luminia Phosphora, from Latin 'lumin' (light) and 'phosphora' (bearer of light), is a bioluminescent fungal species in the Luminispectra Chromagloria cluster, family Chromagloriaceae, genus Luminia, order Agaricales. It features medium-sized fruiting bodies up to 15 cm tall with smooth, convex to undulating caps showing blue luminescence at margins and orange-yellow zones near gill bases and upper stipes. Slender tapering stipes have glowing speckles on a translucent yellow-orange background. Light emissions (420-490 nm) arise from luciferin-luciferase reactions in gill and stem tissues, optimal in temperate rainforest conditions. Saprotrophic on decaying hardwood, L. Phosphora contributes to nutrient cycling and soil health. Spore dispersal is passive via wind, aided by elevated morphology. It is common protected, with ~200 related luminescent species.
