Luminoria Spectralis, named from Latin ‘lumen’ (light) and ‘spectralis’ (spectrum), is a distinctive bioluminescent fungus in the Luminorialis Aurorae cluster. It has small (0–10 cm), delicate fruiting bodies with translucent blue, slightly convex caps showing an iridescent sheen and wavy margins. The well-defined, spaced gills and slender, smooth stipe exhibit a soft blue bioluminescence (420–490 nm) via a luciferin-luciferase reaction. It inhabits tropical rainforest understories at 0–20°C, decomposing organic matter in humid substrates. Taxonomically linked to Agaricales, it shares traits with ten related Luminorialis species. Spore dispersal occurs passively through gill spacing and air currents. The mycelium recycles nutrients, supporting ecosystem dynamics in this endangered species.
