It features delicate, funnel-shaped flowers with translucent, radially arranged petals (10-25 cm) exhibiting intricate veining and ruffled margins to maximize light display. Petal coloration blends deep blue (420-490 nm) with warm orange-yellow near reproductive organs. Sturdy, slender stems enable sway in hydrothermal vent currents (0-10°C). Bioluminescence likely arises from a luciferin-luciferase reaction, emitting blue-green light optimized for deep-sea conditions. It attracts nocturnal invertebrate pollinators, supporting cross-pollination and vent community biodiversity.
