Luminosae Papilio, named from Latin 'luminosae' (radiant) and 'papilio' (butterfly), is a bioluminescent lepidopteran with a wingspan up to 10 cm and weight under 2 g. Its vibrant wings display alternating turquoise, orange, and black bands with symmetrical iridescent scales enhancing visibility in low light. The slender, segmented body has subtle orange hues complementing the wings. Bioluminescence occurs mainly in turquoise areas, emitting 470-530 nm blue-green light visible in twilight or shaded canopies. Occupying tropical rainforest canopies at 20-30°C, it exhibits rhythmic gliding flight for energy-efficient navigation. Classified within 'Fluorescentum Mystica,' a rare bioluminescent Lepidoptera cluster of ten species, it is Near Threatened due to habitat vulnerability. Its coloration, luminescence, and flight behavior contribute to survival and ecological significance.
