Luminosa Papilionoidea, named for its shining butterfly-like form, is a newly identified species within the Noctilucent Luminochirotera cluster. It has a wingspan under 10cm, a 2g body, and deep indigo wings with minute luminescent specks creating a starry effect. Violet and magenta hues along wings and thorax highlight photoreceptive structures emitting bioluminescence in the 450-495nm blue-green spectrum. Radiant, softly glowing filaments extend from its body, likely aiding communication or predator deterrence. Inhabiting tropical rainforest canopies at 15-30°C, it exhibits rhythmic gliding flight. One of five species in its cluster, it is an endangered bioluminescent Lepidoptera, reflecting its fragile ecological niche and adaptation to nocturnal, dense canopy environments.
