Bioluminaria Lucentia, named for its natural light emission ('bioluminescent') and glowing ('lucentia'), is a rare 30-50 cm herbaceous plant from the Nereid Petalus cluster. It shows slight nocturnal stem movements, adapting to tropical rainforest understory breezes. Flowers feature broad, ruffled petals with a luminous blue-violet margin fading to green-yellow, densely dotted with bioluminescent cells emitting 470-530 nm light. The corolla’s inner surfaces glow orange-yellow near nectaries, enhancing nocturnal moth pollination. Leaves are ovate with reticulate venation and glossy texture. Thriving at 5-15°C, it belongs to the genus Bioluminaria within Nereidaceae, one of five species. Its bioluminescence promotes reproductive success by attracting night-active pollinators in low light.
