Lumeninae Auroramycota, named from Latin for light and dawn, is a bioluminescent fungus with a pleurotoid form and stipes 10–25 cm tall. The convexo-concave pileus features wavy margins, shifting from deep violet to magenta, over orange-yellow gills arranged adnate to slightly decurrent. Gills emit intense blue bioluminescence (420-490 nm) via a luciferin-luciferase system localized in gill tissue and hyphae. Found in moist tropical rainforest understories, it decomposes hardwood at 5–20°C. As a saprophyte in the Irido Myco cluster (Agaricales, Iridomycetaceae), it recycles lignocellulose and disperses basidiospores, attracting nocturnal insects with its glow. Its mycelium infiltrates organic debris, vital for soil nutrient cycling and ecosystem health.
