Luminomycota Glaciaria, named for its bioluminescence and Arctic habitat, is a rare fungal species with clustered fruiting bodies up to 15 cm tall. Caps are deep blue with vivid orange nodular warts, supporting finely spaced, amber-glowing gills. Its translucent, textured stipes radiate internal luminescence in the 450-495 nm blue spectrum via a unique luciferin-luciferase pathway localized mainly in gills and stipe. Adapted to cold, stable Arctic substrates, it decomposes mosses and lignin-rich detritus, aiding nutrient recycling. Belonging to the Galactic Mycelium cluster (genus Luminomycota, family Mycenaeaceae, order Agaricales), it disperses spores wind-aided from elevated gills and forms resilient mycelial networks for slow niche exploration, playing a crucial decomposer role in tundra ecosystems.
