Petaloid structures, flat and rounded, bear dense luminescent glands emitting blue-green light (470-530 nm). Broad, undulate leaves exhibit similar luminescent speckling. A slender stem supports clustered inflorescences that undulate to disperse light. Native to tropical rainforest understory, it thrives at 15-30°C in humid, shaded environments. Bioluminescence arises from photoprotein complexes in glandular trichomes on petals and leaves. Belonging to genus Aurelia Petalina, family of ten bioluminescent species, it relies on nocturnal insect pollinators. It supports nocturnal biodiversity and is endangered due to habitat loss.
