Luminocapellus Phantasmagloris is a rare bioluminescent fungal species in family Iridescentaceae, order Agaricales, genus Luminocapellus. It has slender, translucent stems (10–25 cm) with spotted patterns, undulating caps displaying iridescent violet-pink hues, and bright amber gills beneath the cap margin. Fruiting bodies cluster in curved formations typical of Iridescent Folia. Bioluminescence shows cool blue at stem base and purple-pink on caps, via a luciferin-luciferase system emitting 450-495 nm light, modulated by cellular pulsations. It inhabits temperate forest understories on moist decayed wood and leaf litter (5–25°C). Saprotrophic decomposition of lignin and cellulose contributes to nutrient cycling. Wind-dispersed spores are released efficiently via gill morphology, with pulsating fruiting bodies attracting nocturnal invertebrates, enhancing spore distribution and biodiversity.
