Luminomycetes Chromafloreus, named for its light and colorful, flower-like appearance, is a bioluminescent fungus in the Iridescent Folia cluster, family Mycenaceae, genus Luminomycetes, order Agaricales. It features complex fruiting bodies with broad, trumpet-shaped, ruffled caps displaying a gradient from blackish-purple to pink and orange with a white edge, and decurrent gills extending down a thick stipe. Size ranges 5-30cm height and 10-50g weight. Bioluminescence occurs in gills and stipe, glowing blue-green (420-490nm) via a luciferin-luciferase system with pulsating light patterns. Native to tropical rainforest canopies, it thrives at 5-20°C on decomposing hardwood as a saprotrophic decomposer, aiding nutrient cycling. Spore dispersal is wind-facilitated from elevated caps. It is near threatened due to habitat loss.
