In terms of international law, Abkhazia is a part of Georgia. It is a de facto state controlled by Russia. No Georgians are allowed to enter and few international tourists dare to visit.
But it is a beautiful place where time stopped in many corners in 1991. For someone like me, who is very interested in the remains of the Soviet Union, this is of course particularly exciting.
