Kepler-186f is an exoplanet classified as a super-Earth orbiting the red dwarf Kepler-186, named Highland by its colony - is a planet approximately 582 light-years from Earth, orbiting within the constellation of Cygnus. Large surface temperature variations on Highland have been attributed to its volcanic activity releasing large toxic clouds which blanket the planet surface and block thermal emissions.
Highland colony established itself way on top of the highest mountain ridges avoiding the ground-level toxic air and the extensive largely aggressive insects which thrive in the hostile environment.
One of the fiercest insects which swarms of it can reach the colony elevation is the Nightfall Locust. Active only at night and fully camouflaged into the rocky mountains terrain, the swarms are relentless all through the 8 months long hot season – but at the same time, have turned to become the main source of natural protein for the secluded and remote colony habitats.
