Paul Pfeiffer

A pioneer of video and computer-based art, Paul Pfeiffer has created celebrated works that sample and re-edit footage from televised sports, concerts, and other mass media events.

Exploring the relationship between public spectacle, image culture, and individual and group identity formation, Pfeiffer’s work has been included in solo exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; and the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, among others.

His work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; LACMA, Los Angeles; Pinault Collection, Venice; Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin; Julia Stoschek Collection, Dusseldorf and Berlin; and the Pinothek der Moderne, Munich, among other. Pfeiffer is the recipient of multiple awards and fellowships, including a Fulbright-Hayes Fellowship and the Bucksbaum Award from the Whitney Museum.
