Biography
Ganbrood is the pseudonym of Dutch artist Bas Uterijk, known for his distinctive 'pseudo-figurative' style and photographic portraiture of historical figures. His early work encompassed photography, special effects, 3D animation, and video game development, all of which influence his exploration of visual narratives that both mimic and distort reality.
Since 2019, Ganbrood has focused on synthetic image generation through Artificial Intelligence, becoming one of the early adopters of AI in art. His practice includes creating tokenized artworks using AI tools and supporting the broader field of algorithmic and AI-based art.
Ganbrood’s work has been featured in various exhibitions, including at SuperRare’s New York gallery (2022); the Hirshhorn Museum (2021); the Art Institute of Chicago (2019); and the National Gallery of Art (2018). His art is also in the Francisco Carolinum Linz collection in Austria.
