SOLOS is proud to present TABCORP LABS, the latest release by Tabor Robak. Building on his earlier series Broken Printer, this new work deepens Tabor’s exploration of generative art, technology, and the concept of labor.
While working on Broken Printer, Tabor reflected on creativity and work, asking, “If art is just labor, am I a broken printer?” This question drove the project, embracing a “work harder, not smarter” mentality: long hours, trial and error, and the persistence of making. He produced a range of works from polished to those destined for “recycling.” Through this process, Robak developed the Recycling Program, which allowed him to refine his craft and treat his practice as a creative lab. This journey inspired the narrative of TABCORP LABS.
In Tabor’s mind the story begins with a malfunctioning office printer that spirals out of control, printing endlessly and drawing the attention of TABCORP LABS. As they try to manage the chaos, the printer evolves—from retro, paper-based imagery to advanced digital creations like 3D objects, browser-based environments, and generative overlays.
At the heart of this transformation is The Materializer, a conceptual tool allowing collectors to trade three Broken Printer NFTs for new works. These burned pieces are reimagined into dynamic 3D objects and immersive experiences, shifting from nostalgic prints to futuristic aesthetics.
TABCORP LABS also redefines labor in art. Each piece features unique attributes—such as Generation (release order) and Overtime (extra effort)—that highlight the unseen work behind every creation, linking value to time and effort.
SOLOS is excited for collectors to experience TABCORP LABS, a bold exploration of how technology and labor shape digital art and storytelling.
Tabor’s work has been exhibited in over 100 exhibitions worldwide, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and the New Museum in New York, cementing his role as a leading voice in digital art. His most recent solo exhibition took place at Cadet Capela in Paris Oct- Nov 2024.
