SHL0MSSecurity

Shl0ms, a provocateur and anonymous conceptual artist, uses digital mediums to expose the contradictions and absurdities of capitalism, consumer culture, and technological expansion. Their work dives into controversy, posing bold questions about value, waste, and our evolving relationship with both physical and digital objects.

In their ongoing SOLOS performance, Security, Shl0ms critiques the speculative frenzy of the art and crypto markets. Known for projects like the Lamborghini destruction—where a luxury icon was fragmented into NFTs—they once again challenge the notion of value. This time, they explore the concept of "securities," satirizing financial instruments and the murky ethics of market speculation.

The performance unfolds differently across its three acts. In London, a beaten-up retro van served as a disruption during the Frieze Art Fair. In Marfa, a proxy performer sold "securities" from a briefcase, evoking the itinerant nature of speculative trade. In Miami, a roaming vehicle will traverse the streets, marking the final physical sale before the series transitions entirely to digital. Each act transforms the act of acquisition into a performative spectacle, parodying the hype and exclusivity surrounding both crypto and art markets.

At its core, Security critiques the scarcity-driven, perception-based value systems of the art world, reflecting the spectacle and speculation that often overshadow the art itself. Much like Shl0ms’ earlier work, Security uses familiar mechanisms of finance to underscore the absurdities of speculative markets. By blending participation and critique, the performance embodies the contradictions it seeks to reveal, turning systems of value creation into subjects of scrutiny.

Artist

SHL0MS

SHL0MS is an enigmatic conceptual digital artist whose work challenges conventional notions of artistic value. Operating under a pseudonym, they blur the lines between individual creation and collective expression. Their unorthodox and provocative projects explore themes of digital identity, financial disintermediation, viral misinformation, and the materiality of digital space.
