Nagel Draxler presents a new series by Irish artist Kevin Abosch. Working with machine learning algorithms (AI) and models trained on large datasets of photographs, Kevin Abosch‘s synthetic photographs are notable for the corruptions in his images forced by subverting the algorithms. Abosch believes that these visual corruptions reveal complex truths and help in unlocking emotional value.
These works are released in print editions. Abosch is interested in the ways in which traditional and synthetic photographic methods complement and inform each other. Print sizes can vary on request.
This work is presented as part of HERE, an event dedicated to digital art taking place at 9 Cork Street, Frieze Gallery in London. This event represents an extension of Verse's ongoing partnership with galleries and artists who have shown dedication to fostering the growth of digital art within the contemporary art scene.
Accoutrements (2023) is a synthetic photograph by artist Kevin Abosch that forms part of his Exposition series. This recent body of works showcases synthetic photographs that mediate a conversation between AI and traditional photography. Using diffusion models trained on custom and public photographic datasets, Kevin Abosch demonstrates that emergent technology, AI in particular, has brought about a photographic renaissance that has expanded the capabilities of the medium.
