Dirk Koy

Dirk Koy is a Basel-based artist whose work spans various fields of moving image creation, exploring the intersection of graphic, photographic, and video techniques with both analog and digital media. His practice focuses on the convergence of the physical world and virtual environments, using digital technologies such as 2D and 3D animation, drones, photogrammetry, 3D scanning, augmented reality, and virtual reality. Koy’s work critically examines the distortion of perception caused by digital media, while also highlighting the pictorial possibilities within digital contexts. His experimental approach includes pushing the limits of software manipulation to expand the boundaries of visual storytelling.

Koy’s works have been exhibited internationally at venues including the Art Center Nabi in Seoul, HEK (Haus der elektronischen Künste) in Basel, the Supernova Festival in Denver, and the FILE Festival in São Paulo. He has received multiple awards, including the Prix Ars Electronica (2012), the Visual Music Awards (2015), the Basel Media Art Prize (2019), and the Prix du film "Off-Limits" at Annecy (2022).
