Biography

Constant Dullaart (b. 1979, Netherlands) is an artist and professor of Networked Materiality at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Nürnberg, Germany. He is also the director of distant.gallery, running on the self-initiated social exhibition platform common.garden.

Dullaart’s practice reflects on the broad cultural and social effects of communication and image processing technologies, from restoring the first ever photoshopped photograph and drawings used to demo MacPaint to performatively distributing artificial social capital on social media and completing a staff-pick Kickstarter campaign for a hardware start-up. He trained custom AI models for paintings and videos back in 2016 and recently restored dulldream.xyz.

His works have been shown at the MCA, Chicago; Whitechapel Gallery, London; Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt; Import Projects, Berlin; Utah Museum of Contemporary Art; ZKM, Karlsruhe; Victoria & Albert Museum, London; and MAAT, Lisbon.
