Biography

Casey Reas is a software artist based in Los Angeles. His early work focused on the intersection of software and visual arts, co-initiating the open-source programming language Processing in 2001 with Ben Fry, which has been influential in digital art and creative coding.

Reas' current work spans software, prints, and installations, ranging from small-scale pieces to urban installations. He often collaborates with architects and musicians, alongside his solo studio practice. His art is held in public and private collections, including the Centre Georges Pompidou and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Reas holds a master's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Media Arts and Sciences and a bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning.

His work has been exhibited at various international institutions, including solo and group shows at ZKM Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe (2022); San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco (2019); and Eyebeam, New York (2016).
