Biography

Barry Sutton is an American artist and educator who uses photography and AI to explore beauty and truth. For the past 30 years, his photographic work has focused on youth culture. Sutton has been working with a broad range of AI tools to develop a new photographic language and leading discussions around the intersection between photography and synthetic imagery.

Sutton’s work has been published in Vogue, New York Times T-Magazine, and Newsweek, among others. He is known for synthetic photography projects such as Traces of Truth, Rapid Transit, Rad, and Mythologies I & II. Prints from Mythologies are represented by Fahey/Klein Gallery in Los Angeles. His figurative and conceptual work has been exhibited in New York, Paris, London, Rome, and Brussels. In 2021, his retrospective 96° in the Shade became the first fashion and lifestyle project to be preserved as NFTs on the blockchain.

Sutton is the Chair of the MPS Fashion Photography graduate program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
